Kitadate Sabo Dam
Kitadate Sabo Dam was registered as a World Heritage Irrigation Structures in 2018.
The dam was constructed in 1612 under the supervision of Toshinaga Kitadatedaigaku, the lord of Karikawa. The construction prompted the development of expansive new rice fields and new villages, forming the foundation of Shonai as a rice-producing region.
