Tateyama Park

The site of Karikawa Castle, the residence of Kitadate Daigaku Toshinaga, the father of the construction of the large weir and the reclamation of the Shonai Plain, was developed into a park in 1914 to commemorate the enthronement of His Majesty the Emperor.
The bronze statue of Lord Toshinaga is 4m including the pedestal and was completed in 1972. On his head, he wears a hood given by Prince Mogami Yoshiaki in honor of his achievements in excavating the large weir.

If you cross the red arched bridge over the Kitatetsu Ozeki and climb the stone steps, you can get a panoramic view of the Shonai plain from the view spot, and the beautiful lawn of the grand golf course spreads out in the park. Every year in mid-April, the cherry blossom festival is held under 200 cherry trees, and you can enjoy herring and grilled pork, which are the local specialties.
